The new junaio: Letter from metaio CEO Thomas Alt

June 21, 2012

Dear metaio-eco-system,

Yesterday we have launched the new version 4.0 of junaio with a much cleaner UI, a new API and improved performance. Instead of giving you my view on how this will change the use of Augmented Reality for real world browsing, I will let the experts of the press speak for us:

TheNextWeb: “…While there are a slew of apps that tap GPS, image recognition, visual search and other elements of augmented reality, Junaio does a good job of merging them all.”  http://goo.gl/2E3DV

Engadget: “…Junaio offers less ‘clunky’ apps, new API for developers…..In fact, Junaio really needs to have coffee with Project Glass…”  http://goo.gl/N1Fbr

Techcrunch: “….[Junaio] has made some major progress in simplifying the UI. Its new interface is much cleaner now and lets you get right to the camera view when the app starts up so you can immediately start scanning AR content, targets or QR codes   ….” http://goo.gl/FybFL

The New York Times: “… [The junaio] interface is in some ways a little simpler to navigate because of its on-screen icons.” http://goo.gl/VMoqI

It´s still early  – but please be invited to join our yearly conference InsideAR on October, 1st  and 2nd . At this year´s InsideAR we will focus on showing you how the Augmented Reality eco-system – from Chipset OEMs, Technology Providers, Content Providers to End-Consumers – will enable the massive adoption of Augmented Reality. Best regards,

Thomas Alt

Inside AR 2011: CTO Peter Meier to give Keynote

August 2, 2011

What  do Björn Ekelund of ST-Ericsson, John C. Havens of Porter Novelli, and Josh Shabtai of Vertigore Games all have in common? First of all, they’re all excellent, intelligent dudes. Secondly, they’re all renowned, published industry and thought leaders in their respective fields. Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly- they’re all Keynote speakers at this year’s insideAR 2011.There is however one Keynote speaker we have yet to announce, and that’s metaio CTO Peter Meier.

Peter Meier, born 1976, received his master in manufacturing engineering from the Technical University of Munich, before founding metaio in 2002 together with Dr. Thomas Alt. Since then, he has served as CTO and helped to make metaio one of the leading companies for the development and licensing of Augmented Reality Technology, worldwide. metaio has over 80 employees in its locations in Munich, Seoul and San Francisco. Peter Meier actively takes part in expanding metaio’s technology and products. Here’s a brief description of Peter’s speech:

Peter Meier, one of the world’s recognized experts in the field, presents his vision of closing the gap between the real world and the traditional desktop as we know it. Advanced AR software running on powerful mobile devices capable of object / image recognition and natural feature tracking will allow the user to experience the real world effortlessly enriched by personally relevant informative displays, in terms of preference, time and location. In other words: Making the Digital a Natural Experience.

Peter has given numerous speeches on behalf of metaio in the past- you can find clips of them in our YouTube channel, but here’s one to get you started:

Now that we’ve announced our insideAR 2011 Keynote speakers, make sure to check back regularly as we update the schedule regarding special panels, daily sessions, and interactive activities.  You can stay posted on Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn- we’re going to make sure you hear about all this cool stuff no matter where you go.
