metaio Success Story: Harmony and Onvert at Internet World 2012

As the first metaio Certified Developer, Harmony recently launched Onvert, a mobile augmented reality app built with the metaio Mobile SDK for iOS and Android, and took the opportunity to showcase it to a wider audience at the Internet World event held at Earls Court, London in April of this year.

 

From a seemingly simple space (albeit with beautiful artwork), Harmony enticed attendees to see the stand “come alive” through their mobile device or tablets. Many were initially sceptical – they had seen Augmented Reality and were convinced it was only for big budgets or was clumsy and difficult to set up, with little return on the investment. Others had no idea what it was at all. Within moments, zombies were leaping from the stand, Legally Blonde musical melodies sang out at the other end, and sceptical frowns turned to delight.

 

Proud to be partnered with metaio, Harmony explained how the “onvert” viewer app could turn a “boring” QR code on a poster into an awesome, highly engaging 3D campaign containing images and music.

The application was exposed to more than 11,000 participants. During the event the app reached 100^th out of 20,000 in “What’s Hot in the Apple App Store” as people downloaded the app and returned to play with the artwork on the stand throughout the event.

Visitors to Harmony’s booth included Sony, Samsung, ASDA, Network Rail, Waitrose, British Airways, Jaguar Land Rover, Barclaycard, Dermalogica, Panasonic, Black & Decker, Sky Sports, British Gas, KPMG, Ingram Micro, ikonami and over 200 more UK and foreign companies. Their interest spanned from experiencing onvert to making use of Harmony’s metaio development services for applications.

When Managing Director, Jason Higgins, gave his talk “Augmented Reality – Why Super Powers Lead to Minor Injuries and Major Memory Loss”, event attendee @akrmurray tweeted “Now that’s a decent title for a seminar!”
