With theses sunglasses by VUZIX you can view the future. They say. And if “the unit will include virtual reality capabilities along with augmented reality features,” I fully agree. Because still many people are waiting untill we can blast the chains of external displays and all that. But I don´t want to start 2009 with a scoop, so I should first give it a try. There are many definitions of what augmented reality could be. Nevertheless and without magic glasses I really think we will see a lot of cool applications and products or campaigns at the interface between the real and the virtual world this year. You don´t have to be a clairvoyant for this prediction. So, wait and see…

An article about the Terminator Goggles can be found here.

Something else? Well maybe you are interested in geo-tagging. Then this article will be something for you. I think I had a sweatshirt looking like these new markers (High Capacity Color Barcodes) back in the eighties…

They announced just what “AR Features” meant, and they weren’t kidding: http://vuzix.com/iwear/products_wrap920av.html

Visual pass through with optional 6DOF head tracker and optional stereo camera. As I figure it, that’s about all you need for an off the shelf AR headset. Hook it up to a portable computer and the only thing you’re missing is software.

Hey Joe, you are right. These glasses seem to be a contemporary AR-able head mounted display catching up with the software development in this domain. But still the questions remains: who is walking around with a portable computer (including power supply)? Or better: when will mobile phones have the processing power for these kind of applications? Finally, I have to insert this article again, when dealing wiht this topic. I love the picture: http://augmentedblog.wordpress.com/2007/07/31/fake-or-quake/
