Collaboration welcome

September 18, 2008

Of course I envy Ori attending this year´s ISMAR in Cambridge. Inspiring speeches, groundbraking demos and a very cosy environment. But as you can find out here, he is working hard to cover everything about the “latest and greatest in augmented reality applications”. Thank you very much for keeping us updated. And who said, bloggers can´t be journalists? This correspondent is a true son of a gun – with 400 characters per minute!

Spotlights

As mentioned before there is much space for developing devices which augment your point of view. Here´s another example for a star tracker: the StellarWindow.  Unfortunately it is not mobile as mobile can be, because the ”USB-connected 6-axis USB sensor that allows a
PC software program to display the night sky above” somehow still is bound to a desktop. As far as I understood the concept…

I want to start with apps that are dealing with buying decisions or – more in general – mobile consumers. Have a look at CompareEverywhere. Of course, when you can “instantly check if that sale price really is a good deal in a shop” and can “compare prices across dozens of stores in only a few seconds”, this app could be the death of real shopping windows. But the idea to “use the built-in camera to effortlessly scan barcodes” is great. Just like QR-Codes, only better. Because the barcodes are an established standard and together with the maps mash-up it´s a very lean concept. I like…

Or this one: wikitude. Location based services combining built-in camera, GPS and new tracking apporaches – although in the concept stage, absolutely worth to mention. Don´t you think?
