Hands On

Untill now my interface to The Fratellis was “Flathead”, a very nice example of their snotty style. Now I´ve found a nice promotion for a music festival by Radio 1 on BBCs Radiolabs featuring the band from Glasgow. It was called “band in your hand” and that`s what it is! After following a link integrated in an invitation mail the users were able to see a small animation and a video on a 3D screen via webcam and PC. In their hands. Besides some hardware blockers (downloading the software first, printing out a marker as optical reference, not running on a Mac) the promotion can be seen as a success. As innovation leader (best contemporary program in the world, blasting shows like Annie Mac´s Mash-up or Gilles Peterson´s Worldwide Show) BBC Radio 1 was also one of the first to bring augmented reality to their audience. Applause.
What´s next?

Shame on me. I´ve never mentioned “Tagged in Motion”, a very nice augmented reality project by Jung von Matt / next. Now as we´ve met them to talk about their recent and maybe future projects dealing with mixed realities, here´s my late post about the real-virtual graffiti, which was realized together with the renowned street-artist called DAIM. And I love the quote by Nina to explain the viral success of her video (besides fascinating technology and a community based approach with a subcultural testimonial): “It´s one of the few augmented reality demo-videos, which doesn´t look, sound and feel nerdy.” She could be right…
Poke me baby one more time

An article about a reasonable but not ground-braking augmented reality application in engadget? No problem. Just add baby animals or sex (attention: do not mix it up!) and everybody will talk or blog about you. I am the living proof.
Actually, there´s nothing to ad to the article in engadget: “You can then, uh, manipulate her using the cybersticks, undress her, touch her, change her clothes, and, well, we’ll leave the rest up to you, you naughty little thing, you.”
