You should have a look at “Carcade”. Pretty simple gameplay, but pretty nice idea. An in-car video game , which integrates the environment. I doubt that you actually see something of the landscape, but you nevertheless do not exclude the world outside when you play. Ask a WoW warrior, if you don´t know what I mean …
My technical romance
November 23, 2007
Imagine you and a girl, sitting on a bench at the edge of the woods, in a warm cloudless summer night. Looking to the sky, with feelings so high. She starts spotting at the stars, giving their planets fantasy names and wondering about their inhabitants. And suddenly you pull out your “MySky”, point at one of them and say: “Let me tell you, that this is XF-2367-gq-delta and it is 146 lightyears away, with an average temperature of 12 million degrees, so stop talking nonsense about tiny pink two-headed goblins!” Pure romance…
OK, this situation might not be appropriate for a reality check. Because the idea of a GPS based star tracker, with a database of 30.000 objects to learn about is absolutely cool. How often are you standing out there, annoyed by the fact that cassiopeia is once again the only constellation you figure out. As they say in the video from Meade: “There is much more than the ceiling of random twinkling lights. It´s a treasure chest of stars, planets, clusters, nebulas and galaxies.” And it seems to be a playground for augmented reality.
Redefining Space

Great Work. Not only because of developing an augmented reality application with AR-toolkit, a smart game with an elaborate aesthetic approach. What I really like about Julian Oliver´s game is the disruptive thought, of using the inside of the cubic marker as virtual space. The cube is optical reference AND gameplay universe. levelHead uses limitation within a field, where everybody is tempted to think borderless. Respect.

Yet another immersive game within an exhibition. The approach of this Star Wars (i hope I will not get sued because of mentioning THE name) expo “Where Science Meets Imagination” is very common, but nevertheless very interesting. We are also discussing oftenly, how much science there is in fiction. When will be strolling around through a Star Trek Holodeck, can we build the meal generator from beloved hitchhikers guide through the galaxy, will there ever be a killer application like Arnie`s sunglasses in Terminator? Back to (augmented) reality! We are far away from biometric data of an opponent displayed within a Ray Ban – but some applications which are obviously working have this “Star Wars” feeling. I am wondering when Nintendo will give me the wii-lightsaber. Eat this, Dark Helmet!
An article about the exhibition can be found here. May the force be with you!
