Reality Bits And Bites
May 25, 2007
Yesterday, after years of ignorance, I played one of the best computer games of all time again: Pacman! And while I was swearing to the (beep)…ing ghosts – nothing has changed over the years – I was reminded of those students in NY, who established “Pacmanhattan” some years ago. The idea of running through the city and gaming in a real environment is where Augmented Reality could play a nice role. Of course I like pacmanhattan, but as long as my virtual enemies are friends of mine I´d rather not “blast them away”. If they were digital objects, augmented to my vision of the environment, I could really give em, what they deserve. Not to mention an Augmented Reality version of “Doom” …

Here`s an interesting movie I found on a blog dealing with interface design. It`s about a research project in china, where the guys are elevating browser windows from the computer desktop onto the real desktop. Of course this is at a very early stage, but imagine the future prospects. If you get rid of the marker problem and improve the interaction and implementation of applications and programms, you could place your open documents and tools around you and grab them on demand. You could get a real maestro at work. Or, –let´s say a director. So, who doesn’t want to be the Steven Spielberg of Browsing? And who is Tom Cruise?
AR you ready?

So, let`s start dreaming of the multiple scenarios, while hopefully the Head-Up Display Manufacturers try keep up with our fantasy…
